2009 Filene Center Contest Starts Now!

Hello all,

With the pending announcement of our 2009 summer season on Monday, today marks the beginning of my 2nd annual pre-season ticket giveaway contest. Steph - feel free to participate again... but if so, I expect the same level of tenacity as last year.

Contest details:

I have listed below three facts about three distinct artists that will perform at the Filene Center this summer. Each artist falls into one of these three genres - folk rock, country, and...the third is tough because the act is an amalgamation of so many different genres, but I'll call it pop-punk rock. Read the clues carefully, be the first to comment on the blog with all three correct artists, and win a pair of tickets of your choice to one of these three performances. You must include your full name and email contact in your comment. I'll announce the winner on March 23 during my live blogging session from our National Press Club event from 12-1 p.m.

Have fun and good luck!

Artist # 1

Fact # 1 - This artist won his/her first talent contest at age five and by seven had recorded an album;

Fact # 2 - This artist successfully straddles the line between county and pop;

Fact # 3 - This artist had a hit song in the mid-late '90s which was used in a popular action movie starring Nicholas Cage.

Artist# 2

Fact # 1 - This versatile artist created a full-length orchestral piece which topped Billboard’s Contemporary Classical Charts for 14 weeks in 2004;

Fact # 2 - This artist co-wrote an Oscar-nominated song for a 2003 movie starring Jude Law;

Fact # 3 - This artist is married to a Canadian jazz pianist who often performs at Wolf Trap.

Artist # 3

Fact # 1 - This band occasionally tours with a 4th primary member;

Fact # 2 - The group’s highest-charting single is a 1977 song about leaving loved ones before going on tour;

Fact # 3 - Each member of this group came from another widely successful 1960s band.

Remember, the first to comment with all three correct artists will win a pair of tickets to their choice of these three shows.

I look forward to receiving your responses!

  3. This is rather challenging, folks!
    My only lead is to Fact #2 -- that song could have lyrics like "I'm leaving on an airplane, don't know when I'll be back again"?
